Words can shape how we perceive ourself and the world. Words have sounds, vibrations, and frequencies that have the power to affect how energy manifests into reality. Being mindful with language helps us to be clear and concise, and compassionately deliver our messages to others.
This glossary provides an opportunity to bring clarity to the content on this site and within each of the Yoga Nidra sessions. By defining words that are commonly interchangeable or misunderstood, the hopes is to bring clarity and synchronicity as we embark on this journey beyond together.
As you navigate through this site and explore the practices, please keep in mind that the words that have been used were carefully selected to mindfully represent the intention and purpose of all the offerings.
Everything is up for interpretation. Moving forward, you may choose to use your own words to describe a thing or situation, please know that this glossary was complied with love and the intention of supporting you through conscious transitions.
Ways in which we have defined ourselves
Body
People have used the form of the body as a map to help connect to the landscape of reality - to figure out who we really are. Unfortunately, many have become so attached to these physical maps and the functionality of the body has become a doctrine. Some people believe that the physical form of the body is truth and our reality has to fit into it and it limits our capacity to explore, if we are more than the body.
In these practices, the body is referred to as a perception of the mind. The body, whether it is a watery version of our true form (if we have one), or something entirely different, could possibly have been manipulated and suppressed within a 5 sense restriction. There are many questions still unanswered about the body such as brain capacity, junk DNA, untapped potential, and our kinship with natural world.
We have an energetic partnership with the body that allows us to move through this life. The body is a sacred, wonderful, amazing and helpful vessel. It is the garment we entered this realty in and it is something we must leave when we go.
Mind
Mind is described as the realm of thoughts, emotions, and perceptions. It contains all of our memories, experiences, and beliefs. It is an intangible, energetic structure. It is often described as the software running on the brain’s hardware. The mind allows individuals to interpret sensory information, engage in thinking, and form internal representations of the external world.
Ego
Ego is who we believe ourselves to be. Just as the body physically grows, so does the ego. The beliefs about our personality and abilities that we acquire throughout our life feed the ego and create our sense of self. Within the content of this site and the programs, the ego is considered a perception self.
Soul
The word soul has been a way to describe our essence, both within and outside of the body. For the intent and purpose of the information and practices offered here soul is being described as a form of the ego outside the body, still a perception of who we believe ourselves to be, only without a physical form. Also referred to as an astral body.
Infinite Awareness
This term has been mindfully selected to describe and define the essence of who we truly are - our authentic self of being.
Infinite Awareness is formless, boundless, eternal.
A Deeper Dive into Awareness
Awareness has been used interchangeably with the words consciousness and attention.
Consciousness is a noun, and at its most basic scientific definition denotes the ability of a person to generate a series of conscious experiences. Little is known about the mystery of consciousness, such as where it comes from and what causes it to arise, and why.
Attention is like a spotlight that is directed toward objects either in our environment or in our mind so that we can examine, form an opinion or judgment, and make decisions.
Awareness is the container of everything we experience and pay attention to.
For the intent and purpose of this program, Infinite Awareness has been mindfully selected to describe and define an authentic essence of being. Other terms that have been used are spirit, divine spark, soul.
Infinite Awareness is formless, boundless, eternal.
Fate & Destiny
Fate and destiny are terms that are often used interchangeably. Although both terms seem to define a predetermined future. By some definitions, fate is the result of inevitable events predestined by a force. Destiny is also defined as the power of inevitable events predetermined by by a force.
For the intent and purpose of the content within this website and the offerings, fate has been simply defined as the result of your decisions. Nothing predetermined, just the outcome of your determination, or resolve.
Redefining Love
Love is a complex subject. It has been defined as a strong feeling of affection or devotion. It has been classified as an enigmatic emotion, a drive, and an idea, one that can bring immense joy or cause intense suffering.
On a superficial level, love is a belief; a perception that is conditional upon how we perceive others and the world.
For the intent and purpose of this site and these offerings, love has been defined as the frequency of being; the frequency of our true nature.
Infinite & Infinity
Infinite and infinity, although sometimes used interchangeably, have a very distinct meanings.
Infinity is a concept that always turn back to the same point. It is described as endless, with no beginning and no ending. The process through infinity, which is time, can be an unlimited duration and continuous, but the container, which is the limit of infinity, is finite, with definitive boundaries.
To understand how something can be endless but not defined as infinite, think of a circle or an infinity loop. If you walk around a circle without ever coming to a barrier or stopping point, you will eventually retrace your steps and continue infinitely.
Infinity has limits and boundaries, within a container of time and space.
Infinite is limitless, immeasurable, ceaseless.
While both concepts evoke a sense of vastness and incomprehensibility, one is contained and the other is boundless.
Intention & Sankalpa
An Intention is a mental act of determining to do or achieve something.
A Sankalpa is a deep resolve that goes far beyond the intention of achieving a goal. It is less of an ambition and more of a deep commitment to a desire that is in alignment with your innate wisdom.
Working with a Sankalpa in Yoga Nidra goes beyond simply wishing or hoping for change. In Yoga Nidra, you are guided into a state of deep relaxation, allowing for the conscious mind to quiet down, which opens the door to the subconscious. During the practice, the Sankapla is planted in the subconscious mind, allowing for a greater chance of being accepted and integrated. It can then begin to work behind the scenes, influencing your thoughts, behaviors, and attitude to bring that resolve into reality, and profound change to your life.
Perception & Belief
Our perceptions can shape our beliefs, and our beliefs can influence our perceptions.
Beliefs act as neurological filters through which we determine how we perceive reality.
Perception refers to the way in which we interpret and make sense of the world around us, and involves using our senses and our beliefs to create an understanding of the world.
Belief refers to the acceptance of something as true or real, regardless of whether or not it can be proven. Beliefs are often based on faith, intuition, or personal experience, and they can be influenced by external sources. Beliefs can have a profound impact on our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, and our perceptions.
Knowledge, Truth, & Wisdom
Knowledge is an awareness of facts and is often characterized as true belief.
Truth can be considered subjective, for as soon as it becomes a thought, it becomes a belief.
Wisdom is the unspoken, unthought of, unbelieved truth within.
